Do views have value?
This might be the most-self centered post I make on here for a while, but it’s my blog and you’re reading it, so fuck you.
I just went through all the content I’ve made for Superdeluxe and added up the total number of pageviews. It was actually an interesting process, since I hadn’t looked at some of them for so long. By far our biggest hit is the first episode of the Freeloader’s Guide, responsible for 360,471 views combined between superdeluxe and youtube. Next is Quit Playin Video Games, which generated 134,408 views on both sites. After that is the second episode of the Freeloader’s Guide, which got 103,703 views on superdeluxe alone. They go down from there, but add them all together and you’ve got 727,733 individual page views.
To put this in a ratings context, that’s about the average for one episode of Wolf Blitzer on CNN. Or, the total population of Guyana. Which, when you put it like that, makes it a rather pathetic number of people.
So do internet views have any value? Is there some inherent worth on one’s ability to draw viewers in the online world. As our Superdeluxe days draw to close, I guess we’ll see, based on the next home we find.
